After a peak in 2013, Cardiff’s unemployment ratehas dropped and is currently 6%. Although Cardiff’s unemployment rate is higher than both the Welsh and British rates, it is third lowest amongst the ’Core Cities’ and has returned to pre-downturn levels. There is more still to be done. Levels of unemployment vary across the city and can have wide impacts on issues such as levels of crime and mental health, and the overall attractiveness of the city as a place to live and do business.

³There are several different ways of measuring unemployment. The unemployment rate shows the proportion of the economically active population aged 16+ that are out of work and actively seeking work.
